REAL LIFE QUESTIONS: the series

Ascension, Immaculate Conception, and St. Helen’s Parishes are sponsoring a series of interesting discussions at 7:30pm on Tuesday nights. The topic for Tuesday, Nov. 14 is “How Do I Know God’s Will?”, and it will be held at the Ascension Witzman Center (in the church basement). For reservations call Jim Murray at 253-1997. In February, Fr. Chris Worland will present “Why Do I Have to Tell My Sins to a Priest?”, also in the Witzman Center.

Free Movie 7 October

All are invited to a free showing of the movie, “Dead Man Walking”, at 7:00pm on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Page Manor Cinema on Airway Road. The movie is based on the true story of a convicted murderer on death row and Sr. Helen Prejean, who befriends him. It addresses a controversial issue with an intensely personal look at the people involved. Regardless of how you feel about the death penalty, you shouldn’t miss this film! This showing is through the partnering efforts of Ascension, Immaculate, and St. Helen Parishes.

Child Protection Class

St. Helen’s Church will offer a CHILD PROTECTION CLASS on Tuesday, Oct. 10 from 12:00pm –1:00pm in the Rectory. If you haven’t been able to attend an evening session we hope we’ll see you at this one. Please use the side entrance at 605 Granville Place. For information call Matt Dunn at 254-6233.

Coming to Dayton on Wednesday, Oct. 25 is Sr. Helen Prejean, Catholic activist who works in prison ministry, and central figure in the movie Dead Man Walking. Sr. Prejean has also written The Death of Innocents, which discusses the treatment of the imprisoned poor. In preparation of her visit, the St. Helen Book Club invites you to join them in the Big Catholic Read and discussion of that book. Discounted copies may be prepaid and ordered through Immaculate Conception ($11.20, payable to Immaculate Conception) no later than Aug. 27. The discussion will be held on Thursday Oct. 19 at 7:30pm in the Smith Building at St. Helen’s. For more information, call Debbie Goldberg at 253-2647.

Cub Scout Co-Operation

Cub Scout pack 232 (Immaculate Conception) is invited on a trip to Ohio Caverns by pack 329 of St. Helen's. It turns out that our assistant Cubmaster went to school with the Cubmaster of pack 329. We look forward to hearing how the event works out.
